The National Weather Service is forecasting “extra-large to giant surf” as a northwest swell approaches the main Hawaiian islands.
Forecasters with the NWS say the swell is large enough to produce warning level conditions across the north and west facing shores of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, and Oʻahu starting mid-day on Saturday.
NWS forecasters say the swell is being generated by a strong low far northwest of the state, and are predicting surf to be in the 25- to 35-foot range.
A high surf warning goes into effect at 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, and will continue until 6 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2014, for affected shores.

The warning was expanded to include the islands within Maui County including the north and west facing shores of Molokaʻi and the north facing shores of Maui.
Warning level surf can produce dangerous conditions including deadly rip currents, strong breaking waves.
As a precaution, beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers are being asked to heed the advice of ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
***This post will be updated if the timing of this event is adjusted, and when additional areas are added to the warning.

A wildly inventive story about love, madness, friendship, hippies, tsunamis, murder and the great hereafter all in a vivid tropical setting. It is funny, fascinating and touching. If you have never been to the Big Island, this book will make you want to go. If you have been there, this will make you feel like you have returned.

The perfect book for a hammock and a tall drink.

Escape the Winter with "Escape from Hanalei"

It's been a bit cold lately, yes, even on Maui.  Up at our mountain home at 4000 foot elevation it was a chilly 37 degrees F. at dawn.  That's NOTHING compared to what you folks in the Midwest, Canada and the Northeast are getting...even the deep South is getting a taste of it...so...

Escape while you can!  "Escape from Hanalei" is offered to you folks trapped inside FREE beginning January 7 and running til January 11... I'd run it longer but Amazon insists on making a little money so it's only for five days.

Note to Reader:  see if you can find a coconut to put in your lap while reading, or if not that, at least some colorful tropical socks.  AlohA!  (* click the image for the link)
